Applied English I-IV (Period 3)
Course Description
In this class, the essential elements of the regular curriculum are modified to satifsy the needs of students whose reading and writing skills are significantly below grade leve. These course allow students to continue to develop and refine their academic skills.
The prerequisite for this class is a qualified special education student who has been assigned to this class via an ARD/IEP committee.
Materials Needed:
Students will supply paper, pen, and pencil. Additionally, students will provide an open mind and a willing heart.
Grading:
The grading policy is based on the WOC CISD guidelines for 40% for daily grades and 60% for major grades.
During the normal unit of work the student will be given a daily grade for participation in the various activities which comprise the lesson. Grades will also be given for the thrice weekly writing exercises. A benchmark (i.e. major cumulative assessment) will be given during the last week of the six weeks grading period.
A Research project will be given during the 3rd six weeks.
The student will be expected to make up any work in which the student has an absence. On some occasions I provide an opportunity in class.

Policies
School policies regarding attendance, tardiness, and cell phone usage in class are not an option. While this class my be informal at times it still requires the need for respect between the teacher and student and vice versa. I believe the Golden Rule is an appropriate guideline for this class.
